Kenya Part 3

Sadly we said goodbye to Amboseli National Park. Heading down the road our next stop was Tsavo National Park East. The first night there, we didn’t camp.  We found a really lovely hotel, Lion Hill Safari Lodge, perched on top of a mountain, overlooking Tsavo East.

Tsavo East is known for their red elephants. The elephants are not really red. The elephants look red from them wallowing in the mud and from showering themselves with red dirt. This helps to protect the elephants from parasites and the sun.

The next night we stayed at Voi Safari Lodge inside the park. At this lodge they had an underground tunnel you walk through that takes you to a hide at a water hole. The hide allows you to get really close to the elephants.

The next morning we spent some time in the hide watching the elephant’s and then we went out and explored the park. The hide is to the right of the photo, under the two rock columns.

Our last night in Tsavo East we went back to Lion Hill Safari Lodge.

The sunrise view from our room in our lodge.

Between Amboseli and Tsavo East National Parks we liked Amboseli best. In Amboseli we saw a wider variety of animals and we really enjoyed having a view of Mount Kilimanjaro.

The next morning we drove back to Nairobi and turned in our Rav4 to Road Trip Kenya. The following day we flew to Uganda.
